The most traditional technique, called the SMAS lift, lifts and repositions tissue of the SMAS (Superficial Muscolo Aponeurotic System) layer. A deep-plane facelift is said to be a more accurate method of reposition sagging tissue in the cheeks (the plastysma muscle). However, there are more risks that come with the deep-plane lift. A composite lift adds extra repositioning of the orbicularis oculi muscle (the muscles around the eyes) for a more balanced lift. An experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Lisa Taylor will be able to make the best recommendation for your particular goals.
